What does mercy look like to you ? Is it forgiving someone an offense... Forgiving of a debt owed to you... Making a cheritable donation... Giving of your time and talents for someone less fortunate... Helping ease a burden that's too difficult for someone ... Certainly all of these can be considered wonderful acts of mercy. Although have you ever thought of mercy in smaller terms ? It can be as simple as a smile to a lonely stranger... An encouraging word to brighten anothers day ... A look of love, of warmth for someone having a hard day... A warm cup of coffee and 10 minutes of listening to their story... Engaging in each others lives even in these small yet meaningful ways speaks volumes as to the value of their life ... you may be somebody's only contact to the warmth of divine love that day... Everyone needs to feel like they matter, or that they belong to someone. Sadly in our often times fast paste culture people can get disconnected even while in the midst of their own groups, and this can create a feeling of aloneness. I see so many people in my travels that "look" smartly busy and preoccupied on their tethered Wifi device. When I look at them from across the room I quietly ask God to show me the truth... Sometimes I begin to see an emptiness that so permeates our lives, the hurt behind the eyes... the human condition that screams out for connection and hides from it at the same time... We say to ourselves we don't want to be bothered, don't have time... when what we truly yearn for is connection, warmth, to feel accepted, loved, and valued by another ... Even as we "appear" to be fine. No person gets through life without pain, loss and grief. No matter the race, religion or social economical status, we are all human beings and these things effect us all. We all get broken at some point in life, some more than others... You never know until you open the door and begin to listen with your heart. Every single person on the planet needs and deserves to feel loved... So I pray for the ability to step outside of my comfort zone, ( we hermits have trouble here ), and I visualize the hand of the Lord touching the heart of this person and ask Him for wisdom, for just the right word that this child of His needs to hear presently so they will feel His tenderness fill their heart and lift them up. Simple. Effective. Positively radiant results always accompany this action... and it only took about 5 minutes. If you turn first to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to lead you, you will find that infectious feeling that always comes from being a Co- conspiritor, or (God's secret partner) in blessing people... You may be surprised at the lightness of your own heart afterward ;) Go ahead try it, we all have a little bit of angel in us ! Its a wonderful feeling to be part of a blessing, (especially when its done in secret with the help of the Holy Spirit) You never know where God might lead you... you might even make a new friend. One thing is for sure you wont be dissapointed ! Engage in someone's life today even if only for a few minutes from across a room, in secret, you will be glad you did. I pray for all my readers tonight, that you may in some way be touched, filled, reminded that you are a priceless treasure to your Father in heaven, who is always, always seeking to be with you. You are loved more than mere words can divulge ... Sweet dreams . TheUnknownSoul.net |
