Freed From Fear

There is only one kind of fear that actually helps us in life;
that built in run from danger kind of fear.

You know like when there is true danger heading right toward you, ie. an oncoming freight train or something that truly puts us in harms way.  Most often our fears are not of this variety, not by a long shot.  These are the fears that the deceiver would like very much that we keep intact.  Such as, fear of not being good enough or acceptable in certain groups or peoples, feelings of shame, failure, worthlessness, hopelessness, etc.

  You see , as long as we hold fast to these we are delaying our spiritual growth. Thereby holding at bay the life God has chosen for us.  As long as we believe the old lies that have held us back in the past, we become paralyzed and unable to move forward on our journey.

God has given us the ability, through His Son Jesus, to cast off these fears, which I like to picture as actual chains fettered to my wrists and ankles.  (Theres a reason they are described this way in the bible...) I do this to help myself "see" just how much the fear is keeping me from the life
I want to lead, the good life that God has for me.

For example, lets identify something that makes you fearful or intimidated;  try to put a name to it, like this situation or thing makes me feel like a failure or unworthy, etc.  Now lets picture a heavy chain attached to you effectively holding you back from being able to walk away from this thing you have just named.  Not only is it keeping you in your current place but it is not allowing you to reach a blessing just beyond the reach of this chain.

Now we have a choice; we can stay where we are, and at times we can get quite comfy where we are in life... but for those who do not wish to stay where they are and desire to progress forward on the path of their destiny, this will not do...

I am a very visual person so I will usually address things in pictures as it helps me to identify things with greater accuracy for my own soul.

Once I have identified the fear or obstacle preventing my progress I pray for wisdom.  I may ask for keys to assist me in releasing this.  Things like, where did I get this from? (which is most likely a painful situation in my past.)  Then I will ask God to guide me into a better understanding which may include forgiving someone for the hurt they caused me .  This is a process and may require many layers of forgiveness as we heal and learn more about ourselves.
This  enables us to release more of the intensity of the emotions attached to the fear/pain.  Each time I do this I visualize a sword being handed to me.  One touch and the chains fall from me allowing me to move freely away from the old chains that once bound me, and into the life that God died to give to me.

The same is true with self forgiveness. There are many fears and stumbling blocks in life that are generated entirely from the inability to forgive ones self.
If we truly believe that Jesus died for our sins then we must allow ourselves to be set free from the punishment they deserve.
And we must be willing to release others in the same manner.

This is Love... This is Freedom...

This is why He came and suffered as He did.  That we would accept His gift of pardon for All our iniquities.  His blood shed on the cross did not only set a few free of a few sins, He set all free from all just punishment and opened the gateway to heaven on our behalf.  Jesus is the only judge, not us, not our neighbors.

 Come before His throne of grace and receive your full pardon today.

It bears repeating, forgiveness and getting free from our fears and past hurts is a process that takes time... but with each step we take toward this goal we come closer to the truth of Gods magnificent love for us. We become more like Him in our everyday walk of faith and that picture of life that we paint each day becomes more beautiful with each new victorious step.

Lord I pray for Your children today , as well as myself, to come closer to You, to feel Your gentle touch of grace upon our lives. Help us to get free from fears that are holding us back from the life You would have us lead.  Please help us to walk in peace, the peace that surpasses all understanding, the peace that only You, Lord Jesus can give to our souls.
